This past summer a group of consultants went to Vegas and toured the Zappos ‘C’ Suite. I was stoked when they sent this picture to our community network. Now THAT is a positive environment! How’s your work environment? Today I conducted a team retreat for the operating room department and one of the key focus areas they wanted to improve in was having a positive attitude. The great thing about attitude is that it’s up to us as individuals to create it.

One of my counseling professors told me that no one can make us mad, we choose to be mad. Attitude is the same way, no one makes our attitude, we choose our attitude-it can be good or bad. The group inspired me to share 7 principles to help create a positive attitude. How’s your attitude?

  1. Say a positive affirmation each morning first thing when you wake up, the key is to choose something that you believe in with your whole heart.
  2. Count your blessings instead of your troubles. (Mr. Carnegie-thanks!)
  3. Focus on the good things that happen at work.
  4. Let it go, move on.
  5. Decide how much power you want to give a person/situation/etc.
  6. Schedule a ‘fret’ appointment. If you want to worry about something, go ahead – just schedule a time limit on it and set a boundary.
  7. Pray
