What does it mean to achieve Next Level Leadership? It’s a commitment to lifelong learning and “consistently possesses certain fundamental qualities and skills.  Here are 12 essential leadership traits” according to the Center for Creative Leadership. The full list is below and knowing your strengths as a professional and areas for improvement are key to next level performance. It’s also important to realize, you can not excel in every area, align yourself with people on your team that compliment those areas of where you may be lacking a bit so they can shine in their strengths.

On a side note, I attempted to intern at CCL and called the organization in 1999 when I was in graduate school at NC A&T University studying human resource counseling.  I was turned down because I did not have a PhD. HUH? Well, I was VERY thankful Dale Carnegie Training of NC said ‘YES’ and I ended up teaching for their organization for 12 years.  Sometimes when a door closes, another one opens, and it can be such a blessing!

If you rated yourself or a team member in each area on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest level of excellence), what would your score be? Just for kicks here is a creative scoring model:
100-120 Platinum | 80-99 Gold | 60-79 Silver | 40-59 Bronze | 20-39 Brass | 0-19 Rust

  • Self-Awareness
  • Respect
  • Compassion
  • Vision
  • Communication
  • Learning Agility
  • Collaboration
  • Influence
  • Integrity
  • Courage
  • Gratitude
  • Resilience

How did you score? What areas do you excel in like a shining star? What areas do you want to learn more about to unlock your true leadership potential and achieve next level performance? In the next series of Playbooks, we will examine each area and offer insight to help you and your team with the leadership development journey!

Blessings,
